On Monday October 17, a total of 552,276 candidates from 18,501 schools will sit for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) across 2,023 centers in the country.
As part of activities to adequately prepare candidates, Spring-UP Global Network (SUGN) partnered with the Accra Legacy Virtual Leo-Lions Club to organize a STEM mentorship session for the twenty (20) BECE candidates of the Rev. Lartey Adotey Memorial School in Accra.
The one-day STEM mentorship program, which is under “Mentor Me”, a flagship project of SUGN, involved a talk on 21st-century career choices and the relevance of skills training after the BECE. In addition, candidates were grouped into teams where they were given the opportunity to ask questions about the topics discussed.
Giving a talk on 21st-century career choices to the students, Anita Boakye-Yiadom, Charter President of the Accra Legacy Virtual Leo-Lions Club said, “In selecting a career path, identify your passion, build your skills and capabilities, and do not give up on your goals.”
To support the candidates in their exam preparations, volunteers from Spring-UP Global Network (SUGN) and the Accra Legacy Virtual Leo-Lions Club donated Mathematical sets, pens, and pencils to the candidates.
The headmistress of the school, Mrs. Georgina Addintong Frempong commended the team of volunteers and encouraged the students to return to the school in the future to mentor their predecessors. This, she said, will be a great way to pay it forward while continuing the cycle of mentorship.
