Welcome to Spring-UP Global Network

Spring-UP Global Network (SUGN) is a youth-led not-for-profit, working to bridge the literacy gap between children in rural and urban Ghana. We are on a mission to connect Tertiary students and Business professionals to provide mentorship and career guidance to primary school and secondary school students living in deprived communities in Ghana. In addition, we’re nurturing the reading and writing skills of children through our iRead iLead Campaign. At Spring-UP Global Network, we are working to achieve the UN SDG4 Target 4.1 and 4.6 that says:

  • By 2030, all girls and boys complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and effective learning outcomes.
  • By 2030, ensure that all youth and a substantial proportion of adults, both men and women, achieve literacy and numeracy.

Join Us in Closing Ghana’s Literacy Gap

We are a youth-led nonprofit empowering children in rural and urban Ghana through mentorship, career guidance, and our iRead iLead campaign. By connecting tertiary students and business professionals with young learners, we nurture reading, writing, and leadership skills that create brighter futures.

WHY WE EXIST: THE LITERACY GAP WE’RE CLOSING

Libraries & Reading

A 2023 report by the Ghana Library Authority revealed that less than 30% of public basic schools have functioning libraries. In rural Ghana, only 1 in 10 schools has access to a stocked library, limiting exposure to books and reading culture.

Career Awareness and Mentorship

Mentorship programmes have been shown to increase school attendance by up to 55% and significantly improve academic performance, especially among disadvantaged children. In Ghana, NGOs and community-based organisations are filling this gap, but coverage remains limited in underserved regions.

Leadership Development in Schools

A 2025 global study found that only 27% of organisations include youth-focused leadership training in their programmes. In Ghana, leadership training is rarely integrated into the formal curriculum, leaving a gap in nurturing confident, ethical, and visionary young leaders.
