Spring-UP Global Network Joins National Dialogue on Domestic Philanthropy at Ghana Philanthropy Conference 2025

Spring-UP Global Network participated in the Ghana Philanthropy Conference 2025 (GPC25), a landmark gathering that convened civil society leaders, development practitioners, and philanthropy actors to chart a new course for domestic resource mobilisation as a driver of national development.

Held at the Accra International Conference Centre from November 27–28, the conference explored practical strategies to strengthen Ghana’s fiscal resilience through local giving, policy reforms, and innovative financing mechanisms. This year’s theme, “Repositioning Domestic Resource Mobilisation as a Catalyst for Accelerating Development,” underscored the urgency of reducing reliance on external aid and anchoring future growth on internal resources.

The two-day conference attracted 249 participants from civil society organisations, philanthropic networks, government agencies, private sector institutions, and foundations. Discussions focused on positioning domestic philanthropy as a strategic pillar of Ghana’s development agenda.

Representing the Presidency, Hon. Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Deputy Chief of Staff (Admin), delivered a keynote address emphasizing Ghana’s need for financial sovereignty. She noted:
“Domestic resource mobilisation has become the single most important determinant of Ghana’s fiscal sovereignty, especially at a time when traditional aid is declining, and global financing conditions are tightening.”

As part of its commitment to advancing sustainable development through education and social impact, Spring-UP Global Network’s Executive Director, Akorfa Ama Akoto, participated in two intensive masterclasses during the conference:

  1. Designing and Implementing a Local Fundraising Plan
  2. Harnessing Private Sector Philanthropy for Social Impact

These sessions provided practical insights into building robust local fundraising systems and leveraging private sector partnerships for community transformation, key priorities for organisations driving grassroots impact.

The Ghana Philanthropy Conference 2025 reinforced a critical reality: Ghana’s long-term development depends on mobilising domestic resources and fostering a culture of giving. For organisations like Spring-UP Global Network, this aligns with our mission to drive literacy equity and career readiness through locally supported initiatives.

When communities pool resources, they create the capacity to drive systemic change and build resilience from within.

The conference made it clear that the Social Impact sector must prioritise:
1. Establishing robust accountability frameworks
2. Designing inclusive programs that leave no one behind
3. Developing systems that prevent inequality while promoting locally grounded giving.

Spring-UP Global Network remains committed to advancing indigenous philanthropy and repositioning domestic resource mobilisation as a catalyst for sustainable development in Ghana.
