The partnership delivered food, books, and mentorship to 10 vulnerable families, reinforcing parental involvement and promoting literacy in the farming community.
Spring-UP Global Network, a community-based non-profit organisation, in partnership with Nana Churcher Multimedia Limited, brought festive cheer and renewed educational hope to Agbekotsekpo, an underserved farming community in the Greater Accra Region, on December 20, 2025. The initiative targeted 10 vulnerable households, providing food, clothing, and storybooks while reinforcing the importance of parental involvement in education.

A Mission Beyond Celebration
This outreach represented a different kind of Christmas, focused on strengthening family support for education. This commitment follows Spring-UP’s earlier interventions in the community, including the establishment of a community library at Agbekotsekpo D/A Basic School in 2022, mentorship programs, and STEM-focused activities.
Each family received a Christmas food hamper containing essentials such as rice, cooking oil, and household supplies. Children were gifted storybooks by Ghanaian authors, reinforcing Spring-UP’s literacy mission. Volunteers also engaged the wider community of children with drinks, biscuits, and festive toys, creating a joyful atmosphere.

Understanding Agbekotsekpo
Agbekotsekpo is a remote agrarian community where 90% of residents depend on small-scale farming. Infrastructure remains limited, with mud houses, poor road access, and weak network connectivity creating isolation from urban centers.
The local school, Agbekotsekpo D/A Basic School, has a history of resilience. Established in 1983 as a primary school in a mud structure, it later added a Junior High School in 1993 and a Kindergarten in 2011–2012. Today, it serves 373 pupils with 12 teachers, despite challenges such as inadequate teaching materials, poor living conditions for teachers, and a lack of ICT tools.

Community Voices
Headmaster Mr. Joseph Danso expressed deep gratitude for Spring-UP’s consistent support:
“In fact, since you started visiting us and working with us in 2021, our students have benefited greatly. Just last month, you took Mary, one of our bright JHS graduates, to Senior High School when her mother’s strength was not enough. I called to explain Mary’s situation, and your team came to support. Today, she is enrolled and pursuing her dream.”

Mary’s story reflects the harsh realities many families face. Despite gaining admission to Krobo Girls’ Senior High School, she almost missed out because her single mother could not afford the cost of items on the prospectus. Spring-UP stepped in to bridge the gap, ensuring Mary could begin her SHS journey, a powerful example of the organization’s commitment to educational equity.
Mr. Danso added that, thanks to the interventions and support from Spring-UP, the school continues to defy the odds, achieving a 100% pass rate in this year’s BECE, a truly remarkable accomplishment given the circumstances. However, he emphasized that more support is still needed to improve the quality of grades and ensure even better outcomes for the students.
Speaking to the team during the outreach, a grandmother caring for two children shared her emotional story:
“These are my grandchildren. They lost both parents in an accident a year ago. Just a year ago, they were living with both parents and schooling in the city, but they moved here to stay with me after the tragedy. In my old age, I have been doing my best to care for them. I pray for a long life. God bless you for remembering those of us in the village this Christmas.”

Why This Outreach Matters
Explaining the rationale behind the initiative, Executive Director of Spring-UP Global Network, Ms. Akorfa Ama Akoto, said:
“In 2022, we established a library for Agbekotsekpo D/A Basic School. Since then, our team has returned time and again, organizing mentorship sessions, STEM activities, and leadership programs. Just last month, we supported a brilliant student from a single-income household to begin her Senior High School education.”

She added: “One truth stands out; education equity begins at home. If we want sustainable impact, we must engage parents and remind them of the importance of education. That is why this Christmas, we are celebrating differently, with 10 households whose children attend Agbekotsekpo D/A Basic School.”
Partnership for Impact
This initiative was held in partnership with Nana Churcher Multimedia Limited, a UK-based firm that has supported Spring-UP since 2023 through educational interventions. Earlier this year, Nana Churcher partnered with Spring-UP to organize a mentorship and STEM-focused seminar for Junior High School students in Agbekotsekpo.

Looking Ahead
Spring-UP Global Network remains committed to promoting literacy, mentorship, and community development in underserved areas. The Christmas outreach served as a reminder that sustainable educational change requires not only resources but also encouragement, presence, and belief in the potential of every child.
Photos from the outreach captured moments of joy, gratitude, and meaningful connection between volunteers and community members, proof that when families rise, communities thrive.
